Champ is truly a champ at surviving. Champ was found tied up outside a vet clinic, shot through the mouth with his jaw shattered in two places. How Champ survived is something of a miracle and a testament to the skill and dedication of the staff at Best Friends Animal Hospital in Talent, Oregon, where he was treated for his injuries. Champ was rehabilitated at Sanctuary One and is now living the good life with his adoptive family.

Here is a photo of our winter Goldenrod nodding as the sun sets. Let your perennial flower stalks stand proud and tall through winter! There is much to be said about not being too eager to clean up the past season’s foliage in our gardens. As vivid colors fade and the weather becomes less accommodating to us human animals, it’s easier to overlook the life that is carrying on outside. Many insects migrate for winter, but others do something similar to hibernation: a process called diapause. During this pausing period, biological development is suspended until the days lengthen again. One of the most common places where insects hunker down are plant stems. Winter’s time of rest is no less alive!When we think of gardens, we think of beauty.
