Our Story

Sanctuary One is the brainchild of Lloyd Matthew Haines, an attorney, businessperson and philanthropist. In 2006-2007 Mr. Haines, Robert Casserly, Linda Champlain, and Patty Davis together conducted a feasibility plan, finding and purchasing the 55-acre property where Sanctuary One resides. They then formed a legally recognized nonprofit, recruited a board of directors, developed an operations plan, and hired staff to run the operation. Sanctuary One opened in March 2008 and soon thereafter started rescuing animals and healing people while promoting environmental stewardship. Sanctuary One continues to grow year after year with a dedicated staff, active board and a cadre of volunteers and supporters.
