Viking came to Sanctuary One June 2014 from Strawberry Mountain Mustang Rescue; he was confiscated by Animal Control as an neglect case. He was suffering from malnutrition and full of parasites. Staff worked closely with our vet to get Viking on the right feed program.
He started to gain weigh and enjoyed being out in the pond pasture with the other horses and farm animals. With our fantastic vet team and staff care we managed his Equine Cushing’s disease for many years. Viking loved being brushed and was always the first at the gate to eat his dinner or breakfast. At nearly 40 years old he was our eldest distinguished senior gentleman.
In the Spring of 2024 Viking was starting to lose weight again. His health was declining and our vet suspected that Viking had a cancerous mass. We decided to let Viking go without pain and suffering late June this year after ten years with us. He will be greatly missed, but he lived his best life at Sanctuary One in peace. Those who knew him our lives were better for it too. Thank you Viking for your friendship. The pond pasture doesn’t feel the same without you.
