Connect to nature and coming birding with us!

Birding is a great way to slow down and enjoy the wonderful things around us. During the walk, we will stroll through our oak savannah, fire forest, permaculture garden, and end at mule creek riparian habitat.

The walks will be held Saturday mornings on May 18th and June 15th from 8 am to 10 am.. The walks are led by Elva Manquera-DeShields, former Sanctuary One Program Manager, and current Science Communication, Outreach, and DEI Manager at Klamath Bird Observatory. These bird counts will be used to monitor the different species of birds that migrate through Sanctuary One and call it home.

Birders at any level welcome. You will need to bring binoculars, warm layers, and appropriate footwear. The cost is $8 per person.

It's easy to make your own composter using a plastic tote, and it's great for people who don't have enough room for a compost pile. First, get a plastic tote and drill holes in the bottom and sides. Then fill it up with vegetable and fruit scraps. Remember, you can't put anything that's been cooked, or that has fats, oils, or proteins. Try to make a compost "lasagna" by putting layers of "green" and "brown" waste. Green waste is any fresh kitchen or garden scraps, brown waste is dry leaves and other dry garden scraps. Then wait. Meet Bunny and Clyde!Bunny (white female) is a 2 year old adorable Terrier mix and Clyde (tan male) is an outgoing Chihuahua/Terrier mix who is around 5/6 years old.Bunny and Clyde were recently returned to us because of health concerns with the adopter; it was a heartbreaking decision for the family.
