Senior animals have a hard time getting adopted. Mix in illness and the odds further decline. That could have been Leo’s story if he hadn’t come to Sanctuary One. A stray senior with a progressive immune disease, Leo waited patiently for his perfect match—a special person who understood their time with Leo would be shorter and the cost of care higher. Leo found his forever home, living out his days with people who loved him.

Pippa the pig came to Sanctuary One in the summer of 2020, carrying with her a story of resilience and hope. She had survived the devastating Woolsey Fire in November 2018. It took three long weeks before anyone could reach her—cut off in a remote area that had been severely damaged. Thanks to a network of compassionate people who stepped up to care for her, Pippa eventually found her way to the Sanctuary. From the moment she arrived, Pippa made it clear she loved people. She’d greet visitors with cheerful grunts and quickly roll over for belly rubs, her favorite greeting. Pippa brought endless joy to the farm—and comfort to many. One moment we’ll never forget was during a school field trip, when a young student leaned down to pet her and quietly shared, “I lost my home in a fire too. It’s okay—you have a new home now.” Pippa was sweet, silly, sometimes stubborn, and always deeply loved. Her presence was a reminder of the healing that happens here—for animals and people alike.She’ll forever be part of our Sanctuary One family.
