Colleen Carroll Animal Care Director

Colleen has spent the last 11 years in Southern Oregon. Before settling to the area, Colleen’s career led her to California, Colorado, and Montana, where she managed high-end horse ranches, drawing on her expertise in Equine care and management. Colleen holds an Equine Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, blending her academic background with her passion for animals and people.
A strong advocate for animal rescue, Colleen has been especially involved in rescuing and rehoming Australian Cattle dogs. Recently, she expanded her family by adopting Sassafras, a miniature horse, from Sanctuary One. Her love for the outdoors is evident in her daily activities, from riding her beloved horse Ike, to hiking with her four dogs. Her life reflects a deep commitment to animals, outdoor living, and creating a harmonious balance between her work and passions.
Cody Wettenbone Animal Care Assistant
Cody has a long history with Sanctuary One. As a middle school student he was part of a regular service learning team who helped with the animals and gardens. Cody is excited to return to Sanctuary One as a vital member of the crew. His favorite friends on the farm are Pippa the pig and Gumball the pig, who always inspects Cody’s irrigation work in the pond pasture.

Ryan Pfeil President
Ryan grew up in Colorado before moving to the Rogue Valley in 2002, when he began attending college at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. He graduated from SOU with honors in 2006, worked in rental car for a year, then began a career in journalism that lasted nearly 15 years, with more than four years at the Klamath Falls Herald & News and more than 10 at the Medford Mail Tribune. He currently produces videos for the Jackson County Library District’s marketing department. When not working, Ryan enjoys playing hobby board games, writing, and running.
Leslie Miller Secretary
Leslie was born & raised in San Francisco Calif. She worked in Corporate America for 35 years; received Certification in Information System Technologies from UC Berkeley & Project Management Certification from Pacific Bell. She pursued her love for dogs & cats by working as a veterinary technician at Bay Area Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Walnut Creek, Ca. for 8 years. Leslie moved to Rogue River, Oregon in 2018, settling on 2 acres with dogs, cats & goats. She found Sanctuary One after losing one of their goats to respiratory failure. After adopted 3 goats in Nov 2019, Leslie became a volunteer Spring 2020. Her spare time is spent working in her garden and caring for their dogs, cats, goats & chickens.
Thomas Eckert
Tom was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been a Southern Oregon resident since 1989. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Parks and Recreation from San Jose State University and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Southern Oregon University. Tom was a Special Education Teacher for 27 years in the Southern Oregon region. He loves working with students, and animals, especially dogs. He enjoys the outdoors, cooking, baking bread, and collecting fine wine. Tom is also a volunteer at the care farm along with his wife Annette.
Jamie Gatewood
Jamie grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and has called Oregon home for the past decade. With a foundation in early childhood education, Jamie spent 12 years teaching in daycares and preschools before transitioning to nonprofit program management. From 2017 to 2019, she served as Program Manager at Sanctuary One, overseeing service learning, volunteer coordination, and garden programs. Currently, Jamie is the Education and Outreach Assistant Director at the Fair Housing Council of Oregon. In this role, she leads efforts to educate tenants, social service providers, and landlords about the Fair Housing Act, empowering communities to uphold civil rights in housing. When not working, Jamie enjoys spending quality time with her husband, son, their two cats and spirited dachshund, Rosie.
Mandy MacInnis
Mandy grew up in the Seattle area before moving to Southern Oregon in High School. As a kid she always had animals from dogs and cats, rabbits and frogs to a pot belly pig named Boris! After a couple years in college she became a young mom to two beautiful girls and started her insurance career in 2012. She married her wonderful husband Richard in 2021 and together they enjoy spending time with their kids traveling, being outdoors, and just enjoying life together along with their two dogs Pepper and Millie from Sanctuary One! Mandy has also been a volunteer at Sanctuary One for several years, along with her husband and kids. The care farm is one of her favorite places as it gives her so much joy to help animals and in return they help her!
Brigitte Boots
Brigitte is originally from Hawaii, but considers the Pacific Northwest her home after over twenty years in the area. Brigitte earned her Bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education from Portland State University and a MBA from Southern Oregon University. In grad school, Brigitte was the nineteenth intern at Sanctuary One and assisted the executive director with in-depth research on various projects. After graduating, she remained a proud advocate of the organization; this is her second time being on the board. When not working or volunteering, Brigitte enjoys traveling, cooking, outdoor adventures, and encouraging others to get more involved in our community.

Lloyd Matthew Haines Attorney-at-Law, Property Development
Lloyd moved to Ashland, Oregon in 1983, and after a brief stint running a restaurant, began developing and redeveloping property in southern Oregon. Prior to that, he practiced law in Livermore, California with Haines & Walker after receiving his law degree from Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law. A New York City native, Lloyd’s interest in restoring historic structures and beautifying Ashland by creating interesting and art-filled spaces has included ventures such as the Bluebird Park, the Shasta Building, the Ashland Creek Building, condominiums, and various public arts projects, including the “We are Here” sculpture (2006), and the Ashland Creek Art Walk (2007). Lloyd’s current passion is the development of the Sanctuary. Lloyd is the “father” of two dogs and two cats, and “godfather” to all of the Sanctuary’s animals.
Jeff Judkins, DVM Veterinary Care
Dr. Judkins owns and operates Animalkind Holistic Veterinary Clinic in Jacksonville, Oregon. His practice focuses on a blend of herbal and nutritional medicine with acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy and cold laser therapy to treat disease states from their energetic root causes. Dr. Judkins is also President of the Rogue Valley Veterinary Medical Association. As an Advisory Board member for Sanctuary One he often lends his expertise in holistic medicine and donates his time for our more difficult medical cases.
