Serving Our Mission

  • In our first ten years we sheltered over 700 animals. We continue to increase the types of animals we can care for and rehome at Sanctuary One. In addition to cats, dogs, horses, chickens, and a variety of farm animals, we now provide humane care for FIV-positive cats and alpacas.

    ...
  • Our gardens keep growing! Originally barren rocky earth, our  permaculture-inspired gardens have expanded to over 35,000 square feet, with exclusive spaces for our community partners. Starting in 2017, food grown in our gardens is donated to local food bank partners.

    ...
  • Each year we impact the lives of thousands of visitors through farm tours, field trips, and service learning. Our dedicated volunteers and interns perform all aspects of care farming every day of the year, providing nearly 10,000 hours of service annually.

    ...
  • Sanctuary One has grown exponentially since first opening our gates in 2007. This is demonstrated by the dramatic rise in tour requests, partnerships and animal intakes. Community support tells us we’re filling a critical void. But we can’t do it without support.

People, Animals & the Earth. Better Together.

About Sanctuary One

Located on 55 acres in Oregon's beautiful Applegate Valley, Sanctuary One was established in 2007 as the West Coast's first care farm. It was founded by a small group of visionaries who never wavered in their belief in the Sanctuary’s mission: to be a safe place for animals and a healing place for people while promoting environmental stewardship.

Sanctuary One provides a safe home to rescued farm animals and house pets. We work with area shelters, rescues, and law-enforcement agencies to bring in animals who receive personalized attention, loving rehabilitation, and a peaceful retirement here. The farm includes expansive gardens which not only provide rich vegetables and food for the animals, but opportunities for growth of the people who tend them.

Our vision becomes truly special when we share it with you. We look forward to seeing you at the farm! Plan a Visit.

Better Together

1
People

Working with animals and gardening at a care farm have been widely shown to be healthy exercise, lower blood pressure, ease depression and stress, and help lonely people establish therapeutic relationships.

2
Animals

We specialize in caring for domestic farm and house animals that we take in from animal shelters, humane societies and law-enforcement agencies who call on us to help save an animal’s life.

3
The Earth

What started out as rocky barren dirt has evolved into an amazing 35,000-square-foot permaculture-inspired garden. We now grow delicious vegetables that provide food for people and the animals.
